So we got a letter from Alltel/Verizon today and it reads
We are pleased to announce that Verizon Wireless has purchased Alltel and work is underway to merge the operations of the two companies in your area. We believe this is great news for our customers and want to communicate with you about this exciting announcement.
During the next several months, we will work to upgrade the Alltel network in your area and integrate it into Verizon Wireless’ nationwide voice and advanced broadband network to bring you in the best wireless experience available and to offer you the full suite of Verizon Wireless services.
When that integration is complete, as a Verizon Wireless customer, you will enjoy access to wireless service on America’s most reliable wireless network and unlimited mobile-to-mobile IN calling with 80 million Verizon Wireless customers without using your plan minutes. You also will be able to choose from a variety of products and services, including:
-
Nationwide Family Shareplans® with no domestic roaming or long-distance charges
-
A leading lineup of wireless handsets, including multimedia devices and smartphones
-
The latest wireless data services — V CAST video and music services, navigation, e-mail, Internet access and more — delivered on the nation’s largest3G high-speed wireless broadband network

on my copy of the letter, the URL in the phrase was: “please see the answers to the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on http://www.alltel.com/vzfaq.” If you try to go to that URL you just get the standard home page, not a FAQ page. The URL appears to be defined however, because if you try to go to http://www.alltel.com/vzfaqxx
it takes you to a “Looking for something at Alltel.com?” page which has a link at the top right labeled Verizon Wireless Integration FAQs which takes you to the correct page. Then again, if you took the phrase totally literally and included the period on the end of: http://www.alltel.com/vzfaq. it would have bounced you to the error page and if you were semi-alert you would have caught the FAQ link at the top right. Looks like even with 23 years at Alltel, Dad Deem can’t get it right.
