Kthxbai Alltel

by sexydeadstar on Feb.09, 2009, under Wireless

So we got a letter from Alltel/Verizon today and it reads

We are pleased to announce that Verizon Wireless has purchased Alltel and work is underway to merge the operations of the two companies in your area. We believe this is great news for our customers and want to communicate with you about this exciting announcement.

During the next several months, we will work to upgrade the Alltel network in your area and integrate it into Verizon Wireless’ nationwide voice and advanced broadband network to bring you in the best wireless experience available and to offer you the full suite of Verizon Wireless services.

When that integration is complete, as a Verizon Wireless customer, you will enjoy access to wireless service on America’s most reliable wireless network and unlimited mobile-to-mobile IN calling with 80 million Verizon Wireless customers without using your plan minutes. You also will be able to choose from a variety of products and services, including:

  • Nationwide Family Shareplans® with no domestic roaming or long-distance charges

  • A leading lineup of wireless handsets, including multimedia devices and smartphones

  • The latest wireless data services — V CAST video and music services, navigation, e-mail, Internet access and more — delivered on the nation’s largest3G high-speed wireless broadband network

At this time, no action is required on your part. Be assured that your wireless services plan, including My Circle®, and equipment will remain the same and you will continue to recieve your monthly Alltel bill. Verizon Wireless will notify you — by mail — in advance of any changes that may impact your service when the integration is complete in your area.

Alltel and Verizon Wireless value your business, and we are committed to making your transition to Verizon Wireless as smooth as possible. If you would like more information about the transition, please see the answers to the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on www.alltel.com

Sincerely,

Dan Deem

Senior Vice President-Customer Services

Included with the letter was a little insert that reads:

Call more people. Use zero minutes. Starting February 17, 2009 you can use your mobile to mobile minutes for calling Verizon Wireless customers, making your mobile to mobile family over 80 million stron! Your plan doesn’t change, and all the things you love about your Alltel services, like My Circle®, are still yours to enjoy. Alltel Wireless and Verizon Wireless are teaming up to make your services even better — this is just the beginning.

on my copy of the letter, the URL in the phrase was: “please see the answers to the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on http://www.alltel.com/vzfaq.” If you try to go to that URL you just get the standard home page, not a FAQ page. The URL appears to be defined however, because if you try to go to http://www.alltel.com/vzfaqxx
it takes you to a “Looking for something at Alltel.com?” page which has a link at the top right labeled Verizon Wireless Integration FAQs which takes you to the correct page. Then again, if you took the phrase totally literally and included the period on the end of: http://www.alltel.com/vzfaq. it would have bounced you to the error page and if you were semi-alert you would have caught the FAQ link at the top right. Looks like even with 23 years at Alltel, Dad Deem can’t get it right.
